Familia!
Estoy en Chicago! I thought that it would be a while before I got to e-mail or write anyone. I thought that it would be a week or so before my first real Preparation Day, but that's today!
Yesterday was such an exciting day. I got up at 4am, was on the bus by 5, and flew out to Chicago by 8:55am. The flight was anticipated to be a lot worse than it actually was. I thought it would be bumpy getting out of SLC because of the weather, but it was fine. I didn't get a whole lot of sleep, I had too much fun talking to Elder Hatch and catching up with Hermana Layton. We arived at about 1:00 pm. President and Sister Doll were both there, along with the Assistants to the President: Elders Larson and Jones, and one missionary who was leaving that day.
They hauled all our bags to a van and then the President and his wife drove off in it. We, on the other hand, headed back into the airport and down into the Subway to start doing contacts on our way to lunch. We got down there and we started going from train car to train car talking to different people on our way to downtown. There was a really cool man, named Francisco whom i got to converse with in Spanish. My first real contact. However, I unfortunately had no Spanish Libro De Mormon or anything else to give him, and he left before I could get any contact information. But he was interested and open and I'm sure that the missionaries will find a convert in him some day (hopefully soon).
We got off the subway and walked downtown to a Pizzaria where I had my first Chicago Deep-Dish Style Pizza with the president and his wife. They are such nice people. I've gotten to know them really well over the past two days.
After the food, we got to go take a tour of the downtown! I got to see and take pictures of the Giant Bean that everyone keeps talking to me about. We saw the Sears Tower, Chicago School of the Arts, Centenial Park, and a bunch of other really cool stuff. ...And I once thought that SLC was a big city! This place was huge!! I'm stoked. I instantly fell in love with it. I may have to move out here after the Mission. I'd love that I can already tell.
We spent a good 4 hours taking pictures and doing fun stuff like that with the AP's. Then we hit the Metra (train) and rode out to Arlington Heights, where we found the Transfer Van and went to the mission office. We had a little introductory meeting and that was good. From that I found out that I need a copy of my driving record ASAP. Send that out to me if you have one. Either way I'm sending you a release to get another copy if needs be.
We then had dinner with the President and his Wife and we talked some more. I had my first interview with the President and I'm now composing my e-mail next to my new companion, Elder Witham. Also, my first area is Bloomingdale. I'm going out there within the hour. Last night we stayed with the MP and things were great.
I'm so excited to spread the Gospel and do God's will in this mission. So far it sounds like the work is progressing well here in Chicago, I'm just going to do what I can to add on to it.
I love you all,
Elder Jordan Green.
