Hola.
Bueno, que puedo decir acerca de la semana pasada?
A lot has gone on in this past week. The sad news first would be that we had to move Maria's baptismal date back, just one week until the 10th. But she's still progressing nicely. Oh and I almost died last friday... freaking crazy peruvian... haha just kidding, it was actually really fun. We were at the Molina's house which more or less is a 10 minute drive from our house on a typical day. Well the Molinas are really cool people, they actually attend the English ward even though they're Guatemalan. As we're sitting there, the Sister Missionaries walked in. We were all talking around the table, alternating English and Spanish, and a HUGE torment decides to hit. Trees are falling over, rain is coming down in a torrential downpour, people are all turning off their lights and running into their basements... and my companion decides it's a good time to go for a drive! Well not really. He said to me as we were looking at the destruction out the window, "Our bedroom window is open. There's an electrical outlet right below the window where the light plugs in and I left it turned on..." I said, "Oh well, you'll sleep in a damp bed." He responded, "The house could burn down!" "So let it, we'll die getting there!" "No we won't, let's go!" So we went. And we almost died. It was like something out of a movie, streets flooded, police and ambulances everywhere, trees falling over... and I didn't even have my camera. So it takes us 20 minutes to get to Glen Ellyn Road, and we're almost to the apt, when all of a sudden, a police car screams up the road, slides sideways and cuts off traffic in the exact direction we needed to go. So we had to detour. All the houses looked abandoned, no one in the streets, I half expected zombies. It was cool. And we got home... ni una gota de agua estaba en la casa! There wasn't even a drop of water inside! I was mad. So we kicked it there and wated for the storm to subside. It eventually did.
We then went on saturday to an endowment session with the Szalajkos. They're a family that Cuentas taught in the English ward. I was changing into my temple clothes when a temple worker came and called my name. Confused I went and talked to him and he informed me that I was going for exchanges with another elder. That Elder was Elder Nowell! So he and I got to kick it for a few hours while everyone was in the temple (by kick it I mean pass by less-actives and knock a street). He's a fun elder to be around.
Tuesday was really good, we went to the Zone Meeting and we had some really uplifting and energizing talks from everyone. We then had interviews with President and he suggested that I may be a Senior companion here in Bloomingdale. We'll see what happens there.
All-in-all life is really good and I'm really enjoying myself. Way too much has happened to put it into one e-mail, so I'm getting it written in letters. I hope everyone is doing really well. Send my love to all my other Missionary friends. The church is true, we should be too.
Con Amor,
Elder J.
